Trinity County is a widespread, mountainous and heavily forested county in Northern California covering an area of 3,208 square miles. Although large in area, the county is very rural with a total population of 12,285 (2019). The county seat is Weaverville, with a population of 3,599 (2020). Other regions and communities include Northern Trinity (Trinity Center/Coffee Creek), Lewiston, Douglas City, Junction City, Down River, Hayfork/Hyampom, and Southern Trinity (Mad River/Ruth Lake).

The summers in Trinity County are clear, sunny, very warm and very dry with little rain from June to September, except for some mountain thunderstorms in the highest elevations. The winters tend to have substantial precipitation, falling mostly as rain under 3,300 feet, and mostly as snow over 3,300 feet.

Recreational activities abound – from Steelhead fishing and rafting on the Trinity River, boating and water sports on Trinity Lake, trail running and mountain biking the Weaver Basin Trail System, to hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding in the magnificent Trinity Alps. Amazing landscapes range from rugged granite peaks of the Trinity Alps to wide open spaces in parts of Southern Trinity.

With a rich history of gold mining, stagecoach routes, old family ranches, prospector cabins, and thriving communities that have come and gone, there are bits of history everywhere you turn. The J.J. Jackson Museum and Research Center in Weaverville holds a wealth of Trinity County History, preserving county business records from the 1800s until 1950. Shasta-Trinity National Forest occupies the majority of forest lands in Trinity County, and is also home to the Trinity Alps Wilderness which is a part of the vast Klamath Mountains. Six Rivers and Klamath National Forests occupy smaller areas of forest land in the county.

Trinity County is bordered by Siskiyou County to the north, Mendocino County to the south, Shasta County to the east, Humboldt County to the west and Tehama County to the southeast.  Independently and collectively, these areas offer abundant adventure.
